A massive fire broke out at a pharmaceutical factory in Kolkata.

On August 2, 2025, a massive fire broke out at the Dej Medical factory in the Bondel area of Kolkata. A short circuit is thought to have started the fire.
Sources claim that eleven fire engines were utilized to put the blaze under control. The factory went off in an explosion, and flames and black smoke could be seen billowing over the area. The incident’s suddenness shocked the local population. This fire caused the large houses in the area to be evacuated quickly. Many people were taken to hospital for the massive explotion and sickness.
Everyone was running around and many of them were having trouble breathing, making the situation extremely frightening. It is said that more than 300 employees worked in the factory, and some firefighters also felt sick after the fire broke out. Controlling the fire proved to be difficult because it was escaping through the doors and windows, because there was a welding machine in the factory, it is also being said that the short circuit occurred from there. Around 4 p.m., the Gariahat police station received word of the fire. Four to five fire engines were sent to the scene right away. However, as the fire grew in size, additional fire engines were later dispatched to the location.

There were no casualties because the factory was closed on Saturday and was reportedly undergoing renovations, so there were few employees. Watching the fire, a horde of enthusiastic people gathered. The factory’s firefighting system was useless, despite its existence. To put out the fire, firefighters began breaking windows and doors in the factory.Members of the Lalbazar Disaster Response Force responded to the incident.

The old-fashioned factory was putting out the fire quickly. To put out the fire, the firefighters used water from nearby ponds. After that, there were more explosions, and two firefighters got sick and had to be rushed out. The pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, including liquids, capsules, tablets, and a variety of chemicals, were plentiful in the factory. Because Saturday was a holiday and each drug section was separate, no major accident occurred.

The real cause of the fire will be discovered through forensic examination. We need to be more careful than we have in the past, use modern fire extinguishing systems, and build buildings in a modern way with technology that can fight fires in the future. Whether in a pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing facility, these chemicals must be properly maintained to ensure that, in the event of a fire, it cannot easily spread and that the surrounding areas remain safe.
In the future, there will be less damage and loss as a result of this. Firefighters should wear masks, gloves, and other protective gear to prevent respiratory illness and the spread of toxic fumes. It’s also possible to say that short-circuit-prone electrical wires should be replaced right away.
